Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can’t find your answer? .

Do I need IELTS or OET?

Most roles need an English test. Aged care roles sponsored under Australia’s Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement need IELTS 5.0 overall (5.5 for permanent residency). Registered nurses usually need IELTS 7.0 or OET grade B, as set by AHPRA in Australia and the NMC in the UK. UK passport holders don’t need a test for most Australian visas.

Can I apply before my nursing registration is done?

Yes. You can apply while your AHPRA or NMC registration is in progress. We explain each step, and employers know which stage you have reached.

Can I work as a carer in the UK if I live abroad?

Not at the moment. Since 22 July 2025 the UK no longer gives new care worker visas to people applying from overseas. Care roles in Australia are still open to overseas applicants, and UK nurse roles can still be sponsored.

Can my family come with me?

Many sponsored visas let you include your partner and children. It depends on the visa and the role, so each job page and our team tell you what applies.

How long does it take?

It depends on registration and visa processing times. For most nurses it takes several months from job offer to first shift. We give you a timeline for your situation.

Is the eligibility check a visa decision?

No. It is a quick guide based on your answers. Visa decisions are made by the Department of Home Affairs in Australia and UK Visas and Immigration.

Can you work in Australia or the UK?
